The ARR N speaks: Done with the MEPN year, now out in the world, learning

Hi. My name is Nicole, and I'm now an ER nurse in Los Angeles (Holy crap!) who will be an Acute Care NP through UCSF when I return to the City. I'm in my "step-out year(s)," having just completed the MEPN year at UCSF. I've worked in healthcare for about a decade, either as an EMT or in a clinic. When I'm not inside working, I'm outside working, and I've been a whitewater guide in the Sierra Nevadas since 1999. My main river is the Tuolumne. I'm also involved with EMS at Burning Man, and have been helping people with their Burning Man camps since 2000.
My background is in Literature and Women's Studies from UCSC. I've worn a lot of hats: researcher, scientist, humanities geek, poet, and reached a point where I was accepted to both Med School and an MFA in writing program. So, of course, I did neither -Nursing is really where my personal philosophy resides, and makes me feel fulfilled.
When I've got time, I'll write, and I welcome comments and questions about nursing or MEPN and UCSF culture. Thanks for reading!
Ingredients: Wine glass Bottle of favorite red or white Corkscrew Lack of stuff to do, lots of girlfriends at your house, and/or blatant procrastination with a deathwish for the morning
Instructions: Grasp bottle in non-dominant hand. Apply corkscrew. Twist. Bottle is opened when popping sound is heard. Pour into glass. Taste, chug, sip or cheers, depending on your mindset. Repeat until empty, OR until common sense takes over and tells you that maybe you should drink some water. If you cannot remove cork, this is a sign that your job is done for the night.
